Now Thats Work

Someone told me years ago, "Find a job that you like, and you'll never work a day in your life." Well, I did, and guess what? He was about half right.

It kinda seems to me that if you are loving what you are doing, you are going to work. Maybe I'm wrong here, but isn't this fairly light duty? Not everyone gets to do the work they want. Those of us who love our jobs must have some extra enthusiasm that drives us like workaholics, right?

Now we all know that some days it's work, and some days it's not. Some days, our worries are at the wheel of our creativity, so some work might get done with half a stroke. Or, there are days we get to paint our "masterpiece" inside a place where time has slowed, or even stopped. But here is work:

Many labor artfully at jobs they justly hate. I run to show up on time to a job that I don't wanna leave once I get there, unless my belly or my bladder is going to explode. I guess you could call that work. But I think it lacks a certain quality.

It is not my intention to make light of workers who love their job, as if to say that they have it easier than others who do not like their jobs. I love my job, I really do. But just because I love it doesn't mean it isn't work. However...

I beg you to consider the difference between the guy who loves what he does, and the guy who hates his job so much he wants to disinvent it. But he does it. and not only does he do it well, he does it consitently, and without complaint, just to put food on his family's table. Now if you ask me, that is work. And you gotta respect that.
